Architecture in South West France
Najac
Located at the far western corner of the Aveyron at the point where the Aveyron, The Tarn, The Tarn and Garonne and the Lot meet this region is striking in its diversity and variation of local building styles and techniques.
The medievil and pretty village of Najac is surely the most unique and charming of the are with its charming ruined chateau still striking in its position at the crest of the village.
Where to the low lands of the west the roofs are shallow pitched and finished in red Canal tiles to the east where the land rises towards the massive central the roofs are steeply pitched to throw off the heavy rainfall associated with this area. Roofs here are typically finished in Lose ( a local heavy stone tile) or in the slates know as Ardoises.
A short distance to the North where begins the Lot and one soon sees an abundance of red clay tiles sometimes mixed with the heavier Lose to the roofs edges.
